Daylight MusicHireth – released 22nd September
Hireth marks my first foray into non film music and it has been a rewarding experience to explore something new.
I realised that film music is written back to front. When scoring a scene I know the length of the cue to the exact second, I know the emotions and journey of the piece. All this before I've played a single note. With Hireth the approach was different, freed from constraints and deadlines I was able to allow the music to lead and evolve, to take me where it wanted to go.
Written for piano, string quartet & analog synths, it sits somewhere within the worlds of post-classical, electronic and ambient music.
The result is a reconnecting with my personal musical voice, a journey I hope you will enjoy sharing with me.

It was while studying Astronomy & Physics at University College London, that David become involved in the student Film Society and began writing music for short films. It was here that he first collaborated with acclaimed director Christopher Nolan and in 1998 scored Nolan’s debut feature Following.
Their partnership, marked by cinematic gems like Memento, Insomnia, and The Prestige. has borne witness to the masterful fusion of subtle orchestral elements with electronic nuances, giving rise to music firmly ensconced within the post-classical genre.
The Descent by Neil Marshall allowed David to explore new territory with it’s dramatic use of orchestra and choir, the score won many admirers by focusing on the emotional core of the film rather than the horror.
Other scores include Drew Goddard’s The Cabin In The Woods and Hidden for The Duffer Brothers.
